The word ‘Reiki’ translates to “universal life force energy”. Reiki is a gentle hands on holistic energy healing technique, which uses the universal life force energy to bring about stress reduction and relaxation. It recognises that our full constitution consists of more than just a physical body made up of atoms and molecules, but is also mind and spirit. So Reiki seeks to rebalance and harmonise at all levels of our being. Therefore, it works holistically as it is directed to flow through the body and bring into harmony the physical, emotional and mental aspects of being. The involvement of a Reiki healer is to act as a conduit for the universal energy, and to transfer it to the recipient via their hands.

For the body and mind to be able to heal themselves, a relaxed state is beneficial.

The experience of receiving Reiki will be unique to each individual, but it can be described as “having a wonderful experience of tranquillity and serenity!”

A Reiki treatment is a process that anyone can enjoy in the normal course of their life. Reiki can be used alongside and complement any other allopathic or complementary treatment and often helps to provide emotional support during ill conditions, grief or traumatic times. Reiki can leave one feeling uplifted, supported and nurtured.

Reiki can also support by enriching our spiritual lives, and from this we may gain great emotional strength and resilience.

Karuna Reiki is another form of Reiki but the energies channelled are said to be of a different quality, lighter and more refined.

The word “Karuna” translates to mean “any action that is taken to diminish the suffering of others” or “compassionate action”. It is said to offer deeper levels of healing at the cellular level, releasing energies of old patterns and habits, and to give support whilst going through the healing process. So if you feel ready to heal on this level and release what no longer serves you, receiving Karuna Reiki healing energies may assist you with this process.

Firstly, I will discuss with you what happens during a Reiki treatment, including where I will place my hands, which will always be on non-sensitive areas of the body. Reiki can also be delivered by directing it into the body’s energy field which is the non-contact way. A Reiki or Karuna Reiki treatment is given whilst you are fully clothed, but I will suggest you remove your shoes/coat/glasses for your comfort.
The treatment is carried out whilst you are lying on a treatment couch, which can be adjusted for your comfort. During the treatment, in receiving the energy you may experience some physiological responses such as warmth, coolness or even a tingling sensation. You may enter a deeply relaxed state. I will then confirm with you that you are happy for the treatment to go ahead, then if you are in agreement, I will ask you to sign a consent form.

Complementary Health therapies should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice.
Reiki practitioners do not diagnose conditions nor do they prescribe or perform medical treatments, prescribe substances, nor interfere with the treatment of a licensed medical professional. Therefore it is recommended that you also visit your doctor for any physical or psychological ailment you may have.
However, Reiki can complement any medical treatment you may be receiving, and as the body, within natural law, has self-healing abilities, a complete state of relaxation can be beneficial.
It is worth noting that long term imbalances in the body sometimes require multiple sessions in order to facilitate the level of relaxation needed by the body to heal itself. Many bodily ill conditions need this time to allow the good changes to take place, to overcome wastages and weaknesses, to build up new strength and vitality.
