ABOUT REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a science and a holistic therapy whereby the body, mind and spirit are treated as a whole and is a safe and effective way of treating the body and improving well-being. It deals with the principle that there are reflexes in the feet which relate to all organs, functions and systems of the human body. Where stress and tension are present in the body for a long period of time, this can cause an imbalance in the body which creates the conditions for illness. Reflexology is a treatment that aims to relieve this by deeply relaxing the whole body and promoting a physical and emotional sense of well-being and restfulness. You may like to know how Reflexology works. When we apply pressure to each foot, we are stimulating approximately 7,500 nerve endings. The stimuli, causes an effect on the largest control centre in the body, the nervous system, and evokes a positive reaction in the body. Within natural law, the body has a huge regenerative ability and an innate potential for maintaining health and overcoming illness. By applying a comfortable pressure and using precise reflexology movements, the stimuli acts to encourage the body to rebalance and for all systems to function better. If you are living with certain chronic conditions, and receiving conventional medical care, Reflexology can help improve your quality of life and bring comfort. It truly is a therapeutic intervention!

Prior to the treatment, I will discuss the process with you and discuss what you may feel during receiving the treatment. I will then confirm with that you are happy to go ahead with the treatment. If you are, I will discuss with you what your expectations are from receiving the treatment, take a confidential medical history from you and request that you sign a consent form.

WHAT YOU MAY FEEL AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Reflexology is a holistic treatment, and treats the mind, body and spirit, bringing all into balance, and following the treatment you may experience the following:

* Feeling tired and sleepy. Please be aware of this if driving, and if possible, listen to what your body is telling you and try to have a rest.

* More emotional than usual. When the whole body system becomes deeply relaxed, and one is feeling supported by the therapy, one feels more able to release pent up feelings and emotions.

* The desire to use the toilet more frequently – this is completely normal and a natural healing process. Reflexology also works on the detoxifying systems of the body, and will naturally stimulate your body to release toxins. It is advisable to drink an adequate amount of water over the next 24 hours to aid the body to flush out the toxins.

* A healing response. As blockages to energy flow are released, you may experience a temporary exacerbation of symptoms as the body is finding balance. This should be seen as a positive sign that the body’s healing responses are working. So it is best to avoid drinking alcohol as it may cause a headache and also inhibits the body’s own natural healing responses. Also avoid eating a heavy meal for a couple of hours as post treatment the body is geared up to use its energies to heal and repair.
